Fly masks help protect your horse’s eyes, ears, and face from pesky insects—and even harmful UV rays.
First, choose the right fly mask for your horse. Some have ear covers, some cover the nose, and some offer UV protection. Pick one that suits your horse’s needs and environment.
Gently place the fly mask over your horse’s ears and eyes. Most masks have Velcro or hook-and-loop closures under the jaw. Secure it so it stays in place—but not too tight.
You want a snug but comfortable fit. The mask should sit clear of the eyes, not press against the lashes, and allow full jaw movement. Check there’s no rubbing around the ears or cheeks.
Simply slip your horse’s halter over the mask to lead him to and from turnout. Fly masks should be removed and checked daily for dirt, damage, or signs of irritation. Never leave one on 24/7. Give your horse a break, especially overnight.
