Lifelong horse care includes everything from routine soundness checks to appropriate parasite control to regular dental exams. When you keep up with your horse’s preventive care, you can extend their performance career and manage them well into old age.
“As an equine veterinarian, I find it very rewarding to care for senior horses, especially those that I have had the privilege to know and work with over many years,” said Wendy Krebs, DVM, of Bend Equine Medical Center. “I have quite a few patients now that I started caring for when they were 4 or 5 years old, and I’ve been able to continue that annual care, and they’re now in their mid-20s and even 30s.”
